THE PRINCE & THE FLOWER SELLER
It was Christmas Eve and the prince was fed up.
“Oh, well, I suppose I’d better get up.
What can I wear?
And where is the valet to do my hair?
What can I eat?
One gets so tired of truffles and treats.
What shall I do?
It’s so boring when servants are waiting on you.
Where will I go?
I’ll sneak out the palace and walk in the snow.”
He put on his cloak and went into the street,
But stopped when he heard a young woman weep.
“What can I wear?
My dress is thin and my coat thread-bare.
What can I eat?
It’s hard to cook when you have no heat.
What shall I do?
I have no money and the rent is due.
Where will I go?
How can I survive in the cold and snow?”
The pampered prince wrapped her up in his cape
And carried her back through the palace gates.
From that day on he understood,
He should and could and would do good.
The prince also fell in love that day
So the wedding was planned for the next Christmas Day.
And when the prince and the flower seller became King and Queen,
It was said, they were the kindest there ever had been.
